The Balé, a Luxury Resort in Nusa Dua, Bali

The Bale The Balé in exclusive Nusa Dua is a luxurious and romantic boutique resort with spectacular modern Balinese architecture, unbelievable food and private villas to die for. It's the perfect location for your honeymoon in Bali.

Described as a "rare gem", the calming white walkways and tiered water features are your first glimpse into a world of pampering by a friendly team dedicated to your pleasure and relaxation.

The Balé, although it has a feel of a much larger resort, is restricted to 29 private villas. It means that it feels like you have the place to yourself. It's also an adults only experience, so couples and honeymooners can reconnect, relax and re-energise.

Our pavilion and garden was more like a luxurious private house, one I'd be happy to move into forever. With a beautiful water feature in the entry way, an outdoor relaxation area with full sized bed and a private pool, you'll honestly never want to leave. It really feels like your own private sanctuary.

The bedroom of our pavilion The Deluxe Single Pavilion

The rest of the villa is beautifully appointed inside, with a platform bed, working area, large flat screen TV and complimentary wifi throughout. The bathroom is almost ridiculously generous with a large stone tub, his and hers sinks and glass double doors opening to stairs that lead straight down into the pool.

I only actually used the beautiful indoor shower a few times because the outdoor rain-forest shower was such a unique experience. How often do you get to have a shower in the open air? Don't worry, it's private, so nobody can overlook your shower.

Faces Restaurant at the Bale Every morning we ordered breakfast straight to our room, but when we could tear ourselves away from our pool, the restaurant is a cool and funky experience. Set beside the main hotel pool with an open kitchen, breezy music and ceiling fans overhead, it feels like an exclusive member's club. At night we relaxed on the loungers in the chill out area with cocktails and admired the illuminated azure pool.

Food is quite simply, stunning. The menu has some similar elements to sister resort, the Amala and we were thrilled to enjoy the famous quinoa salad again.

Every meal starts with a complimentary bread basket with a perfectly baked loaf, bread sticks, olives and a different veggie dip every day. Each course is imaginative, with healthy options such as raw cashew hummus and yellow pepper golden gazpacho. Seafood is a specialty and is served with fresh and organic vegetables.

Fresh juices and cocktails accompany the meal, and desserts are healthy enough to indulge in every night. For a light option, the fruit plate is a range of exotic mango, mangosteen, passion fruit, papaya and watermelon.

The restaurant is gorgeous, but it's fairly easy to spend hours in the privacy of your own pavilion. At times, we ate in the restaurant, but then ordered our dessert to be served in our room. There's no extra charge to order room service, so you could in fact eat all meals in private.

Romance is their business, and they do it very well. We experienced a very romantic dinner in our own courtyard, complete with candle lanterns surrounding our table and strung up in our frangipani tree. Staff can also arrange a romantic candle-lit rose petal bath complete with chilled champagne.

Couples should also experience a massage or spa treatment in the wellness centre, as relaxing all day can be very stressful. We had an aromatherapy massage in the couple's room which has a beautiful stone open air jacuzzi. For this reason, we'd recommend an evening massage so you can soak up the atmosphere under the stars.

The beach is just five minutes walk away, but if you don't feel like exercise, the concierge can arrange to drop you and pick you up in the air-conditioned van.

The Beach at Nusa Dua Although the beach is public, the Balé has a section with loungers and umbrellas reserved for guests and complimentary water and sun lotion served alongside a room service menu. Alternatively there is a relaxed beach side cafe for lunch which can be charged to your room.

The beach is relaxed, and isn't the usual crowded tourist beach, but instead has local children playing and selling jewellery as well as fishermen bringing in their boats and setting nets.

The concierge can also drop you to the local shopping street for clothes, traditional souvenirs or famous Balinese artwork and sculptures to take home.

As well as being a perfect honeymoon resort, the Balé can create a beautiful and romantic wedding ceremony for you too. The team helped us with our Guinness Record attempt for Most Married Couple, by turning the grounds into an exotic destination wedding paradise.

Our wedding ceremony was very sweet and themed around my favourite flower, the frangipani! The wedding team made me an incredible frangipani bouquet, I had them in my hair (from our own tree) and our aisle was created with perfectly placed flowers - it was so lovely that we didn't want to walk on it and ruin the effect.

The Wedding Ceremony at the Bale Bale 029

A flowered arch, pretty covered chairs and the beautiful, natural surroundings made it a lovely ceremony, attended by staff and performed by Operations Manager Marcus. It was definitely a memorable occasion and the Balé would be an incredible backdrop if you're considering your own destination wedding.

A honeymoon at the Balé is a dream come true for couples who appreciate quality and exclusivity, and want a unique and utterly relaxing experience after a hectic wedding. We had a wonderful stay here and would come back anytime.

Many thanks to Lifestyle Retreats and China Airlines for sponsoring our trip to the Balé. Runaway Bride and Groom can help you organise your entire package to Bali for a wedding or honeymoon including flights, transfers, insurance and activities.

Getting Married in Bali Want to get married in Bali?

We did three vow renewals in Bali, including one at the Balé. Bali is a fantastic place to get married, guests will love to come and have a tropical holiday, and you're already on honeymoon!

The Menjangan Resort at West Bali National Park

_AMP8537

The Menjangan Resort at the West Bali National Park is a different side of Bali, away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas, and a completely natural experience in an unspoilt and stunning landscape.

Set in the incredibly beautiful 700 square kilometre forest, the resort is a combination of native retreat, adventure park, honeymoon oasis and beach hideaway.

We spent six days at the Menjangan and had a fantastic time. The forest, mangroves and the beach are very different to the rest of Bali and it was a really unique perspective.

Honeymoon Room There are many accommodation options to choose from. The forest lodge in the main part of the resort has large en suite bedrooms, perfect for honeymooners. We were greeted with rose petals on our bed, and a hand carved sculpture of two lovers. What a perfect souvenir for a honeymoon couple!

Every night is a turn down service with mosquito nets to ensure you don't get bitten and there is good air-conditioning throughout.

Each room has a huge en suite, with complimentary natural body care products, fluffy towels and robes. There's also a private sun room facing out to the forest with a matted floor and cushions to sit on. We used it for our yoga room, but it's also a perfect place for room service breakfast.

The Jetty and Menjangan Bay The rooms surround a common deck, with mangroves growing through the boards, making you feel at one with nature. A swim in the lush light green pool and jacuzzi are the perfect end to the day.

For a truly natural experience out under the stars, couples can try out the mangrove beach huts, a double bed surrounded by a tented mosquito net. You'll be right on the beach, but hidden in the lush green mangrove trees.

The other options are the cliff top villas, an interconnecting series of three villas overlooking the stunning ocean below. Perfect for large groups or families. Coming soon will be the amazing beach side villas, just metres from the ocean and featuring luxury appointments and the best view in the resort.

So much to do

The activities are endless, so you'll never get bored. The beach is incredibly clean and unspoilt and is perfect for snorkeling and diving. Day trips with boat transfers and lunch can be arranged to dive around Menjangan Island, or you can experience a unique night dive.

Even snorkeling just off the floating jetty is impressive, with beautiful angel fish, star fish and coral visible even on the surface. We went for a kayak around the bay, stopping at our own private beach along the way and watched the sun go down.

Riding through Menjangan Resort The resort has its own dedicated stables, with beautiful Australian horses available for every level of rider. We went on an exhilarating trail through the forest, galloping and trotting with only the sounds of the birds for company, ending up on the beautiful beach. Each trail is led and flanked by experienced guides, and the horses are very well behaved and responsive.

Of course, if you don't fancy a different activity every day, you can just laze around on the jetty, by the pool or even have a Balinese massage in the privacy of your own room.

The Bali Tower

The stunning 5 story Bali Tower is an incredible feature of the resort. It's one of the highest buildings in Bali and the view from the top is unbelievable, as it was originally built as a watch-tower for the park. Now it's a gorgeous restaurant.

Breakfast is served on the lower deck, which is almost at tree-top level and has an incredible view of the mountains. Each breakfast comes with a fruit plate and fresh juice, with choices of traditional Indonesian and Western options like pancakes, and bacon and eggs.

Lunch and dinner are served either on the first or second floors of the tower. There's a huge range on the menu, serving the healthy minded (with salads and juices), Indonesian favourites such as Nasi Goreng (fried rice with either meat, seafood or vegetables) and Western burgers and fries.

Couples must experience the special romantic Indonesian feast at the very top of the Bali Tower. It's a private experience for two, with incredible views. Sat on natural mats with each course presented before you, this is a truly unique experience. Cutlery is provided, but each course can be eaten the traditional way, by hand.

A feast for two at the Bali Tower Traditional Romantic dinner at the Tower

We requested a vegetarian feast, but the regular ones contain meat or seafood, whatever your preference. It started with a complimentary Indonesian cocktail and a tasty peanut dish fried with herbs and syrup. Next up was clear soup, followed by a rice, tofu and tempe dish with a light curry sauce. Dessert was banana fritter with ice-cream.

It was a delicious meal, served on natural palm leaf plates and a very unique and special experience. It's not to be missed!

Rare natural beauty

Grey Monkey at Bali Tower Bird and animal lovers will be in heaven, with hundreds of beautiful animals in and around the resort. There are several endangered flora species in the park and more than 160 rare species of birds, including eagles, sparrows, kingfishers and the critically endangered Bali Starling.

The park is teeming with unique wildlife, such as the flying fox, wild boars, Rusa deer, the Hawksbill Turtle and you'll see monkeys of all ages playing together.

The best way to see all this wonderful nature is to take a guided jeep tour around the park, but you'll also be lucky on the open top bus which takes you between the facilities. Make sure you have your camera handy, because you could blink and miss a National Geographic moment.

The Menjangan is in the middle of an extensive expansion programme, which will be sensitive to the environment and will create an even greater experience for guests. We can't wait to go back and see all the new additions.

Weddings at the Menjangan Honeymoons in exotic Bali are incredibly popular because they are so relaxed. The Menjangan is a really different experience and perfect for nature and beach lovers alike.

Destination weddings will also be popular here, fun to bring out the whole family for relaxation and adventure. Weddings can be conducted virtually anywhere, on the jetty and on top of the tower are our recommendations, but the breakfast deck would also be unforgettable.

Many thanks to Lifestyle Retreats and China Airlines for sponsoring our trip to the Menjangan. Runaway Bride and Groom can help you organise your entire package to Bali for a wedding or honeymoon including flights, transfers, insurance and activities.

The Amala Wellness Retreat in Seminyak, Bali

The Amala Wellness Retreat The Amala is one of the most exclusive and intimate wellness and detox retreats in Asia, a perfect oasis of calm and harmony situated in the heart of Seminyak, Bali's most fashionable and exciting area.

We spent four relaxing and beautiful days in the Amala and loved the sense of peace, incredibly friendly staff and the delicious and very healthy food. It was just what we needed after overindulgence in champagne and wedding cake over the past four months.

Getting Married in Bali

Bali Wedding Bali is a wonderful place for a destination paradise wedding, due to the amazing weather and relaxed culture. You can get married on a beach and then be on honeymoon straight away! Friends and family will love to come to Bali to attend your wedding but you might have trouble getting rid of them afterwards.

You can have a church wedding in Indonesia and apply to have it registered with the Civil Registry Office, or you can opt to do the paperwork at home and just do a blessing ceremony in Bali.

All three resorts we stayed in can help you plan a gorgeous and relaxed wedding, each with their own personal style. We were married under a traditionally decorated Balinese canopy at The Amala, on a beach jetty and on top of a tower at the Menjangan Resort in the West Bali National Park and finally surrounded by frangipanis and a flowered arch at the Bale Resort.

Check out our vow renewals and get inspired for your destination wedding in Bali.

What Have We Been Up To in Bali?

At the Manjangan Resort - West Bali National ParkBali is a beautiful place in one of the most beautiful countries in the world and truly one of our favourites.

We actually came to Bali for our own honeymoon in 2009 and absolutely loved our experience. The balmy weather, incredible flowers and trees and the friendly people.

Where we're staying

This trip is sponsored by Lifestyle Retreats and we're visited three of their amazing resorts.

The Amala Wellness Retreat is right in the middle of Seminyak and is an oasis of calm and beauty with the best of Balinese architecture. Our private villa actually had a swimming pool in the loungeroom.

Next we went to the Menjangan Resort, in the middle of West Bali National Park. Horse riding, water-sports, forests and the beautiful beach. It was incredibly unspoilt and is in the middle of a brilliant expansion plan.

The Bale Resort in Bali We're now at the stunning Balé resort, our own private pavilion with blinding white decor and incredible water features throughout the resort. Tomorrow we're having a gorgeous healthy meal served by candlelight next to our private pool.

We're doing a full review of each resort, but trust me they are all world class wellness and relaxation retreats.

What we've been doing

There's so much to do in Bali and you can go from extremely relaxing to extremely adventurous. We've been horse-riding, doing yoga, getting massages (Balinese massages are pretty intense) and exploring the beaches.

Shopping is brilliant, particularly for traditional artwork (honeymooners HAVE to get an art piece as a souvenir), textiles and homewares. There is a proliferation of organic clothing companies since we were here last year - Mark picked up a pair of Komodo flip flops with recycled tire soles.

Jumping in the ocean

We also did a couple of vow renewals here in Bali, it's a brilliant place for a destination wedding. I have several friends who've gotten married here, and it's a really relaxed place to combine a holiday and a wedding!

More photos coming soon, but let us know your favourite places in Bali!

...

Thanks to our flight sponsor China Airways and Lifestyle Retreats for this brilliant trip.
